Pilates History
Learn more about Joseph Pilates
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates (1880-1967). Born in Germany Joseph was a sickly child who suffered from rheumatic fever, asthma and rickets. Over the next 50 years he worked at regaining his health by developing an exercise system he called ‘Contrology’, or the study of control. The movements were geared toward emphasizing your body’s core – the abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, butt, and so on.
For this reason, Pilates develops much of what exercisers need – strength, flexibility, muscular endurance, coordination, balance, and good posture – with a much lower chance of injury than with other forms of exercise. The discipline emphasizes correct form instead of many repetitions exhausting the muscles and losing form. With so many exercise variations and progressions, you will have a hard time getting bored with Pilates.

Zoeli's Fitness Programms
Zoeli’s youth fitness program is designed to help young athletes build a strong foundation that can greatly enhance their physical development and overall well-being. This program typically focuses on improving strength, flexibility, agility, and endurance, all of which are crucial for young athletes to excel in their respective sports. By incorporating Pilates and functional movement techniques, you can help young athletes develop a strong core, better posture, and enhanced body awareness, which can reduce the risk of injuries.
Moreover, a well-structured youth fitness program can also instill important life skills like discipline, teamwork, and goal setting, fostering not only physical growth but also personal development in the young athletes who participate. We look forward to making a positive impact on the future of aspiring athletes in our local and online communities.
At Zoeli we believe that mobility is a cornerstone of physical well-being and an essential component of a healthy lifestyle. Whether you’re a dedicated athlete or simply looking to maintain a high quality of life, the importance of mobility cannot be overstated. It involves the ability to move joints and muscles through their full range of motion, which not only prevents injury but also enhances performance in various activities.
Mobility contributes to better posture, reduces the risk of chronic pain, and aids in stress reduction. As we age, maintaining mobility becomes increasingly vital for maintaining independence and overall health. At Zoeli we enjoy helping individuals of all ages unlock their physical potential and enjoy a more active and fulfilling life.
The Titleist Performance Institute is the world’s leading educational organization dedicated to the study of how the body functions in relation to the golf swing. Through specific exercises, the instructors correct physical limitations that affect the golf swing and potentially lead to injury.
One of many examples of how Pilates benefits the golfer is seen above with the rollback bar. As most golfers know rotation is typically important to properly execute the golf swing and the same level of hip rotation is also required to do a deep squat.
